Cat Ferraz

I’ve drawn something over and over again without paint. I’ve been stuck in distraction in front of people before without them knowing. I haven’t completely figured out what it is that catches my full attention intrinsically but I know when I see it. When I see it I paint it. The thing changes, the deep red line in the lip the follows under the noses shadow, the little white spot at the underside highest highlight of an eye in dim light. I mean, the things change immediately, but I can pause them.

The feeling that grabs my attention to it all has never changed, and then I go and paint it, and it circles in change and time some more, but the different painting feels like the original feeling. The feeling I capture is my memory of it. So it doubles, and sometimes in the subconscious which is hard to make out an image that can actually stay put before it falls off the bed and doubles again.  My mind sees it and then sees it again and over again in different things, and loves it the same way closely.

I’ve come up with theories based on the ideas of my work or my life involved in this ongoing circle that has me painting into inexplicable forever. I couldn’t tell you why I paint but I can tell you what has happened and what its like to evolve your thoughts and life with color. Sometimes it’s helped me but mostly just made my memory all tangled into spirals that have a particularly parallel flow.

I’ve decided to dedicate this show to the details I have always remembered and the details that distract me that I have painted over and over again in my head but have never actually committed to paper.
