Life partners for thirty years, Art Curtis and Shelley Adler have achieved the rare ability to mentor and critique each other as artists, while maintaining and continuing to develop their own personal styles despite working and living in the same space. Adler’s intimate realistic depictions of people invite the viewer to engage with her images while Curtis’ imaginative scenes encourage a flight of fancy.

Curtis’ work being exhibited in Fantasy and Memory was done prior to his career as a commercial, architectural and botanical artist. This exhibition at The Loft at Liz’s shows his sense of humor, love of fantasy and his acute satiric view of modern trends. Curtis has an excellent color sense and an unusual way of viewing our world.

Adler uses old B&W snapshots as a basis for her imagery. Selecting images that seem provocative and/or that elicit a strong reaction, she imagines the colors that may have been present when the photo was taken. By doing so she hopes to bring the viewer into an intimate understanding of her subjects.  Adler is a member of TAG (The Artist’s Gallery) located at Bergamot Station, in Santa Monica, CA.

Art Curtis and Shelley Adler’s work will be on exhibit at The Loft at Liz’s from Jan.15-Feb.12, 2011. The opening reception is January 15th from 7-10pm, in conjunction with the Miracle Mile Art Walk. Chat with the Artists Wednesday, February 9 from 7-10pm with the show closing on February 12. The Loft at Liz’s is located at 453 S. La Brea Avenue above Liz’s Antique Hardware.
