HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE JUNE 9

ARTIST TALK.

Many thanks to everyone who came to the INSECTICIDE Artist Talk! Those in attendance gained insight into how these artists are inspired by the many legged, winged, footed creatures we share our planet with! The evening started off with a simple appetizer and wine reception, followed by an enlightening panel discussion lead and moderated by Liz, who shared her respect for the many insects that live in her garden and help make it grow! The panel of artists included Sierra Pecheur, Michele Seipp, Steve Kutcher, Holly Hood, Karen Sikie, BENDOW, Cielo Pessione, and Renee Fox . The “Bug Man of Hollywood” Steven R. Kutcher, spoke about the process and choreography he, the beetles and flies use that make-up the multi-layered patterns of their collaborations. He also works with tarantulas, cockroaches and moths!

Botany inspired artist, Renee Fox is fascinated by the pseudo-relationships that wasps and bees create with orchids. They inspired her to create the “Pseudocopulation Series” currently showing during INSECTICIDE.

Our artist panel shares a deep understanding that we truly co-exist with these insects, and a sense of respect that developed at a very early age, or after an unusual experience, as Karen Sikie had after being stung on the ear by a big black bee that literally knocked her to the ground!
