“INSECTICIDE” AN ART EXHIBITION
SATURDAY, MAY 15 thru Wednesday, June 22, 2010
Every spring, the Loft at Liz’s presents a Nature show. This year’s theme is created around the fascinating world of insects!
“INSECTICIDE” is a contemporary art exhibition centered around bringing awareness to the importance of insects and the integral role they play in our survival.
Each of the artists participating in this show have an affinity towards insects. Their work reflects their deep appreciation and respect to the creatures that pollinate our food and continue to teach us life’s lessons.
INSECTICIDE ARTISTS: AMAR, BENDOW, Francesca Fornasari, Mary Larsen, Karen Sikie, Sierra Pecheur, Renee Fox, Gwen Samuels, Savva, Michele Seipp, Steven Kutcher, Gerry Stecca, Holly Hood, Christine Caldwell, Cielo Pessione, and Ruth Snyder.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE JUNE 9
Many thanks to everyone who came to the INSECTICIDE Artist Talk! Those in attendance gained insight into how these artists are inspired by the many legged, winged, footed creatures we share our planet with! The evening started off with a simple appetizer and wine reception, followed by an enlightening panel discussion lead and moderated by Liz, who shared her respect for the many insects that live in her garden and help make it grow! The panel of artists included Sierra Pecheur, Michele Seipp, Steve Kutcher, Holly Hood, Karen Sikie, BENDOW, Cielo Pessione, and Renee Fox . The “Bug Man of Hollywood” Steven R. Kutcher, spoke about the process and choreography he, the beetles and flies use that make-up the multi-layered patterns of their collaborations. He also works with tarantulas, cockroaches and moths!
Botany inspired artist, Renee Fox is fascinated by the pseudo-relationships that wasps and bees create with orchids. They inspired her to create the “Pseudocopulation Series” currently showing during INSECTICIDE.

Our artist panel shares a deep understanding that we truly co-exist with these insects, and a sense of respect that developed at a very early age, or after an unusual experience, as Karen Sikie had after being stung on the ear by a big black bee that literally knocked her to the ground!
We hope you will join us on Saturday, June 19 from 1-4 for the Loft Listening party!
The Insecticide Art Exhibition closes on Monday, June 21.
