Saturday November 5th, 2016 (7pm-10pm)
On December 8, 2016, in conjunction with the Blue exhibition at The Loft at Liz’s, Lauren Kasmer presents Not So Blue, an evening of small bites, R&B, hip-hop, video and wearable art. The event is free and donations benefit two local charitable organizations who will feed and shelter women and children in need.
Lauren Kasmer, artist and producer of Not So Blue, is a visual and social practice artist who creates installations and interactions in a range of media and a variety of processes within traditional and alternative spaces. Art critic, curator and essayist Shana Nys Dambrot notes that she ”…works in a hybrid modality of wearables, unconventional materials, crossover, gender-bending, and performance, creating photography-based video and sound installations in which her inspirations refract and diffuse like a conceptual hall of mirrors. Her intimate ensconcements blur boundaries…”
For Not So Blue which is a supplement to the holiday exhibition at The Loft at Liz’s entitled Blue, Lauren has invited food artists, musicians and models to work with her in a collaborative effort to create an interaction that exists on many levels. Her work takes off from these collaborations and moves into the wearables provided for the models and musicians and projected video to be shown on the outside of the gallery building.
Specifically, Lauren has enlisted artist Douglas Wilcox and Chef Yukari Kajihara for blue themed related edibles. Rhythm and blues band Bite the Blue and hip-hop artists Ubiquitous Love Tribe will provide musical accompaniment.
