Thank you for joining us on Saturday for the opening event ‘Diverted Destruction’ at The Loft at Liz’s. The show features 12 artists including a demolition installation created by the team at The Loft at Liz’s. Through diverse approaches, such as: oil painting, found object, collage, photography, giclee print, sculpture, installation, and video, each artist contributes towards one powerful overlaying theme. ‘Diverted Destruction’ strives to focus attention to the plight we face as human beings forced to acknowledge the effect our way of living has had on the planet. A large portion of the show presents objects that were headed for the garbage and then reused and assigned a new purpose.

We would like to thank our sponsors: Waste Management Downtown Diversion, The ReUse People, Global Green USA, and Holistic Living Guide.

For those of you who were not able to make it to the opening, it is going on through September 3rd, 2008. We will be accepting submissions (click here) of new work for this show throughout the summer, culminating in a closing event on Wednesday, September 3rd from 7-10pm. We are open Monday through Saturday, 10am-6pm. During the opening we were streaming Anne Leonard’s video: www.storyofstuff.com (come visit and we’ll plug it in for you).

Of course, no opening is complete without dishes cooked fresh from Liz’s garden. Here are some pictures from this past show:
